Andrei Arshavin
Now there is no doubt this boy has alot of talent and has been a major factor in the Russians beating the Dutch in the last round.
Suddenly he is a world talent with many pundits saying he is on a par with Ronaldo and pointing out he has done more in the two games he has played in this years Euro's than Ronaldo has done in 3 major tournaments.
I dont know all about that.... I kinda feel the boy has excelled at a Euro's that has been poor for new talent coming through with only his country throwing up a number of players running into a bit of form.
When I think of the two games England played against Russia.... in the home game we was 3 up within half an hour.... and the away game John Terry was injured.... Frank was just back from Injury and the manager decided, wrong in my opinion to sit him on the bench and only put him on when we went behind.
I would say there was nothing in those two games to be getting the cheque book out for 25m players in those Russian teams.
Then we come to Arshavin age.... he is already 27... and I ask this question..... are they telling us that no one has seen this guy perform to this standard until these Euros?
I truly find this strange.
This is what makes me laugh..... the boy has 2 good games.... there is no denying that..... one interview after the game he tells of his love of Barcelona..... who have never even thought about the boy before the 2 euro games.
Now its being reported in the Spanish press that Madrid are going to be paying too much for Ronaldo cause Barca will get a player of the same level for a mere fraction of the Ronaldo price.
Something just dont add up here.... his age.... his Imperceptible being until now.... It will be interesting to see what happens

Re: Andrei Arshavin
Arshavin does seem to playing better in the last couple of games then he has the rest of the time. He never really sparkled in Russia's Euro qualifying games. You have to wonder at 27 where he has been for the last 8 or 9 years, he could be a late bloomer, his last couple of seasons have been his best. He could be this tournament's Karl Poborsky.
You could say that Arshavin is the reason for the improvement in Russia's play, or Russia as a team could be peaking at the right time. Also other than the Dutch, whose style seemed to play into the Russian's hands, they only beat the Swedes and the Greeks two pretty bad teams. Spain is a different matter, if the Russians get by the Spanish and Arshavin has another great game and then does it again against the Germans in the final, than maybe there is something in the hype.

Was he even playing? Although the Russians as a team did have a poor night.

Re: Andrei Arshavin
Lol.... he couldnt have strengthened my case against him better than he did last night.
Totally snuffed out.

Re: Andrei Arshavin
A lot of talk that Arshavin is headed for Chelsea. Either in London tonight or tomorrow for talks and a medical. Again the stories of Abramovich being the driving force behind a player move, wonder if this will turn out better than Shevchenko?

Another midfielder to Chelsea? Surely not. Who is this guy really as well? Are you telling me that a team that would like to consider themselves as the worlds best, will buy a player based on two good appearances?
He plays in the Russian league, which is hardly a challenge and plays internationally for a team that never qualifies. The time they did he had a couple of good games but went completely missing in the other two. 50% success rate...thats probably good enough for Chelsea given that he'll spend at least 50% of the time on the bench.
Again, it would be a terrible move for him because he wont be first choice and he should be looking to develop his career, not hinder it. Cant help but feel he'd be better off at a midfield club in Spain or England where he can be at the head of the team.
Re: Andrei Arshavin
I am not saying this is true, but I am prepared to weigh up this might be the token Russian for Roman if he comes to Chelsea.
Plus.
Check out who allowed Roman to give up his Guv job at the Kremlin and look to see who pumped in so much money into Arshavin present club.
You will find its the same guy.
Small world eh
